Community Relations - 2009 Year End Community Report

Cash Grants Program
The C. R. Bard Foundation was established in 1987 to manage a corporate contributions program benefiting U.S. non-profit organizations that address a community need in line with Bard interests. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided grants totaling over $21.3 million to organizations in the areas of health and community development, education, arts and culture as well as matching gifts to the United Way and Community Health Charities. The non-profit organization must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Organizations, institutions or programs working to improve the quality and delivery of health care-particularly in the fields of urology, oncology, vascular and surgical medicine.
  • Organizations working to benefit communities in which Bard has significant operations and employee populations.
  • Organizations in which Bard employees are active as volunteers.

In 2009, Bard cash and product donations totaled over $3.6 million.

Matching Gift Program
Through the Matching Gift Program, Bard seeks to supplement gifts made by active U.S. employees and directors of C. R. Bard, Inc. and to financially support those organizations that are important to them. The match is made on a 1:1 basis to U.S. organizations that work in the areas of health, community development, education, and arts and culture.

In 2009, Bard matched a total of $392,165 in employee gifts.

Workplace Campaigns
Bard is proud to help the United Way and Community Health Charities fund programs and services to support people in local communities. Local United Way chapters work closely with private businesses, governments and non-profits to address critical issues to help build support structures for healthier, stronger communities.

In addition to the regular Matching Gift Program, Bard matched employee donations to United Way and Community Health Charities in the amount of $329,700 during the 2009 Workplace Campaign.



 

Product Donations
Bard actively contributes many products to aid health care and humanitarian organizations worldwide. Bard donates to non-profit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organizations that are able to respond to worldwide medical emergencies and missions.

In 2009, Bard made product donations totaling $582,257.

Corporate Volunteerism
Bard's concern for the health and welfare of others extends beyond monetary contributions. Bard recognizes the important difference that employees can make in their communities. Employees are encouraged to volunteer time at community nonprofit organizations. Indeed, many employees have done their part by participating in a wide range of local activities.

In 2009, Bard employees around the world volunteered over 15,000 hours.

Division Cash Donations

Each domestic division site has an allocation of Foundation donations. A committee at each location decides which charities will receive donations.

In 2009, Bard domestic divisions awarded more than $249,000 to organizations that benefit the communities where Bard employees live and work.


International Donations
Bard's international divisions and their employees have also shown concern for their communities by committing volunteer time and dollars to support those in need.
